What are nutrients?
Nutrients have specific metabolic effects on the body. They consist of vitamins, minerals (including trace elements), amino acids, essential fatty acids, carbohydrates, dietary fibers and many more. As thus, an intake (or supplementation) of all the nutrients the body requires at the right concentration and amount can ensure that you remain healthy.
Nutrition is a concept that should be as important to our educational process as our ability to count. The ability to recognize our nutritional requirements, find the foods we need to fulfill those requirements, and differentiate between healthy food consumption and “unhealthy” eating habits is not an option. Not for a healthy, happy, long, and quality life.
Nutrition comes from a variety of foods and each interacts with and provides a balance for the body. Do not neglect a wide choice of foods, including grains, fruits and vegetables and protein. Lean beef, fish, poultry, even wild game can provide great sources of protein. Plant proteins are less complete and if not researched can lack certain minerals that provide the right balance for good health, especially in children, teens, and pregnant women. Lean beef, for example, provides the equivalent of a multi-vitamin supplement, but also provides heme-iron, vitamins B-6 and B-12, zinc, niacin, and phosphorus. It also contains CLA, which is shown to be heart-healthy.
Nutrition for Life:
